Guest Blog: Lauren Reed 'eventer-turned-racer' & why quality matters.

Lauren Reed, eventer-turned-racer and ex King groom, tells us about her switch between disciplines and the pieces of kit she relies on most to keep her horses protected, on either type of field.

"I got to know NEW when grooming for Mary King which I did for two brilliant seasons. I groomed at the top events such as Badminton, Kentucky and Tattersalls. I fitted in eventing myself around this and managed to compete up to Novice level on a brilliant horse called Johann Sebastian who taught me so much! Unfortunately, age got the best of him and he had to retire.

I then took a winter job working in racing and 5 years later I haven’t looked back. I’ve enjoyed training my own horse and even race ridden myself. Racing is an amazing experience and a completely different buzz to eventing. I’d recommended it to anyone brave enough!

Sending a horse out competing, whether it be dressage, show jumping or cross country, with boots you can trust, is extremely important. So what about racing?

When I was eventing, I would use New Equine Wear boots for every discipline. Brushing Boots Fleece for the dressage warm up, Open Fronted Fleece Tendon Boots for Show jumping and most importantly the XC Fleece for Cross Country. Not once did they break, slip or let me down. So when I changed to racing, it was always going to be NEW that I would run my horses in.

Sending a horse out racing with boots on in my opinion is essential. Having evented, I have the attitude that you wouldn’t send a horse cross country without boots, so why would you race a horse without them?

For the past three seasons I have used the XC Airoflow Boots. Not only are they extremely lightweight, which for racing is brilliant, they are also very breathable allowing the legs and tendons to stay cool. The tendon guards are very strong which again, is brilliant with the speed a horse travels and minimises tendons being struck into.

After every race, my boots go in the washing machine and come out as good as new and ready to go again. The XC Airoflow have never moved when racing and I have never used tape to keep them in place either.

Even when it comes to daily exercise and trips to the gallops, I always rely on NEW Brushing Fleece Boots which again, wash after wash, year after year, are still worth every penny.

Nothing else compares to New Equine Wear."
